NLS-Glossary

FACT (Federation of Automated Coding Technology)

A bureau of AIM consisting of organizations that use and promote automatic identification among their members.

Fiber Laser

is a laser in which the amplifying media is an optical fiber.

Fiber nonlinear effects

Fiber amplifiers concentrate the light in a small diameter core and allow us to increase the power density up to very high levels. This can become a major problem when considering high pulse peak powers as many optical non-linear effects appear above a certain level of peak power and spectral densities.

Field stop

The field stop is an element that determines the angular size of the object field that is imaged by the system. In most systems the boundary of the field stop is the edge of the detector, although it may also be a separate diaphragm in an image plane ahead of the detector.

First Read Rate (FRR)

A bar code verification term. The ratio of the number of successful reads to the number of attempts. Commonly expressed as a percentage.

Fixed Beam Scanner

A visible light or lasFixed beam scannerer scanner that requires a more exact positioning of a bar code than a moving beam scanner.
